A pack containing information about the nationally-praised regional policing units in the East Midlands has today been published.

Aimed at candidates standing in the forthcoming PCC elections in Leicestershire, the pack contains details about how various policing services are delivered across the East Midlands in an innovative collaborative partnership.

EMSOU, the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, was first established in 2002, bringing together officers and staff from the five East Midlands forces – Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. In a national report published last year, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary described EMSOU as “the model which other (policing) regions can copy”.

Since 2002, several other collaborative units have been set up including forensic services, legal services, criminal justice, occupational health and operational support services.

Over and above providing the public with more effective policing services, the regionalisation of these services are estimated to be making annual savings of more than £13m.
