Commissioner rewards innovative crime prevention projects

Leicestershire Police and Crime Commissioner Lord Willy Bach will this week present the first of his crime prevention grants to organisations which share his ambitions to protect the vulnerable across Leicestershire.

The PCC will formally present grants to three organisations in the first round of his Prevention Fund which offers local organisations a financial lifeline in their work to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour.

Willy Bach launched the fund in May and invited voluntary and third sector groups to apply for a share of £250,000 to support his Police and Crime Plan ambitions and enhance support for victims of crime.

The PCC pledged to allocate small grants in 2017-18 to organisations which back his prevention priorities including hate crime, domestic violence and abuse, Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE), drug and alcohol-related problems, sexual violence and mental health. A further £250,000 is available in 2018-19.

Willy Bach said: “I’m excited to be investing in ground-based crime prevention which works in the heart of our communities and provides direct help to those who need it most.

“The first round of my Prevention Fund has been extremely competitive and the decision-making process has been difficult.  However, there is more funding available for those organisations which can make a real difference to people’s lives and have a positive and long-term impact on public safety.”

Details of the organisations successful in the first round of funding will be announced at an event on Thursday (31 Aug) at Force HQ in Enderby, Leicester.

Grants are still available for new initiatives, existing successful projects where funding is tight or to enable existing projects to develop further.  Applicants are asked to consider the Police and Crime Plan (www.leics.pcc.police.uk/PoliceandCrimePlan-2017-2021) and the Commissioning Framework 2017/18 (www.leics.pcc.police.uk/Commissioning-Framework-2017-18) before submitting a bid.  Applicants can find out more about the process at http://www.leics.pcc.police.uk/Planning-and-Money/Commissioning/Funding-2017-18.aspx
