Speaking about his first day as Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, Rupert Matthews said the following:
“My first day as the Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland was, as you might expect, quite a busy one.
I have begun to settle into my office with my team. I have had some delightful and productive meetings with the Chief Constable and Chief Executive of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
Discussions included how we will deliver on the priorities of our two counties and city and institute an effective Police and Crime Plan within my first 100 days.
After a long campaign, one might expect I would like a break, but instead, I plan to get on with the job of cutting crime, recruiting more police and increasing police presence across our communities.
I want to thank the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland for putting their faith in me and my manifesto, and I will not let them down.“
