My Visit to the Contact Management Department

Rupert Matthews with Matthew Comery at the Contact Centre

It was great to visit the Contact Management Department based at Force Headquarters yesterday to see first-hand how the contact handlers manage incoming online reports, 101 and 999 emergency calls.

I was particularly impressed with how calm and professional the team were as they receive a huge variety of calls, often challenging in nature, including reports of missing people, road traffic collisions and crimes in action, to name but a few. At times they talk to people in potentially dangerous or vulnerable situations and it’s down to their training to stay calm and determine the most appropriate response.

The team within the Contact Management Department have a unique role of being the first point of contact for the residents of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland at a time of genuine need and I was privileged to watch them in action.

Leicestershire Police are looking to appoint resilient, compassionate, and assertive problem solvers to join their dedicated team as a Contact Handler. This is an exciting opportunity in the heart of the Contact Management Department, located at Leicestershire Police Headquarters in Enderby.

You will be trained and supported to effectively manage operational policing incidents, ensuring that adequate resources are deployed to provide a first-class quality service. The role covers a 24-hour, seven day a week shift pattern. There is a rotating shift pattern of four days on and four days off which includes evenings, nights and weekend shifts. Typical shifts within the pattern are 7am to 7pm and 7pm to 7am.  The nature of the shifts allows for a good work-life balance yet the shift enhancements on top of the salary also equate to a great remuneration package.

So, if you’re good in a crisis, can you keep calm under pressure, think on your feet to resolve problems and have what it takes to answer an emergency call in someone's genuine time of need find out more here: https://bit.ly/ContactHandler1023.
