Could a free home security makeover be on the cards for 2024?

837-Rupert Matthews with Home Security Upgrade Kit

Residents who want to do more to protect their homes from burglars are being urged to check their eligibility for a free security makeover.

Officers from Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews’ team have held public events in Melton and Oadby and Wigston to raise awareness of a new home security initiative funded by the Commissioner, designed to stop burglars in their tracks.

Mr Matthews secured significant funding from the Safer Streets 5 Fund and recently announced plans to invest part of the cash into free security upgrades for more than 500 householders in Oadby and Wigston and areas of Melton.

Eligible householders have already received leaflets on the scheme and are being urged to sign up for a free assessment as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Mr Matthews said: “Many crimes are preventable with foresight and planning. As Commissioner, I am determined to reduce the risk by arming residents with the knowledge and tools they need to protect themselves and their properties from criminals.

“In today’s economic climate, affordability is a real barrier when it comes to home security. This is why my scheme is free of charge and will benefit the most vulnerable people in our communities including previous victims of crime who continue to live in fear following their experiences.”

Dependent on your area, residents could qualify for new window and door alarms, light-timers, window alarms, video doorbells, CCTV cameras and other products.

If you are a resident of Oadby and Wigston or Melton Mowbray, you can register your interest by signing up using this link: https://forms.office.com/e/mzzGp0kE9j.
