Improved Support for Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators

A new scheme, aimed at encouraging more people to set up Neighbourhood Watch Schemes, has been unveiled by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC).

The “Multi-Scheme Administrators’” project has been created by the OPCC’s Neighbourhood Watch Project Manager Sam Payne to support new scheme co-ordinators.

PCC Rupert Matthews said: “Neighbourhood Watch plays a vital role in making our communities in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland safer.

“I have always been a strong advocate of crime prevention, which is the recurring theme running through my Police and Crime Plan.  I recognise the valuable role played by Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) in preventing crime and ASB and this new scheme will help new NHW co-ordinators get to grips with the role.

“I’m grateful to all those who volunteer to run Neighbourhood Watch Schemes, they really are helping to make our streets safer.”

Sam Payne added:The first step in any journey is often the most important, and our Multi-Scheme Administrators (MSA) are there to help and guide all new scheme coordinators.

“Anyone wishing to find out more about becoming a NHW co-ordinator, or how to join a local scheme, should contact sam.payne@ourwatch.org.uk. Training and support is provided at all times and you can be assured of a warm welcome.”
