Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews has strongly welcomed the introduction of a new three-year ban to proactively tackle car cruising in Castle Donington.
A Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) has been in place since 2021 to ban racing and nuisance drivers in a specific area of Castle Donington.
North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) has now secured a new three-year ban covering a much larger area including parts of Hemmington. The order will enable the council to issue fixed penalty fines to dangerous and anti-social drivers across the whole of Castle Donington.
Mr Matthews said: “Our communities in Castle Donington will welcome this news. I heard first hand their concerns about this type of behaviour at the public meeting that we held last year, and I know that all the partner agencies have been working hard to deliver a solution.
“This is in line with my firm belief in prevention first.
“Dangerous and anti-social driving brings misery to local people and has a significant impact on quality of life. The issue is frequently raised by residents on my travels across the county and they rightly expect tough action to deter future activities and hold those responsible to account.
“I am grateful to my colleagues at the council for their proactive approach. Leicestershire Police will continue to support these efforts by conducting patrols in the area and I warmly welcome the addition of a new CCTV camera and ANPR technology, funded by the council, to ensure the order is vigorously enforced.”
