Statement from Charlotte Chirico:
“It is with the deepest regret that I resign, with immediate effect, from my position as Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
“I would like to stress that this is entirely for personal reasons and not something I foresaw when I took up this role. My commitment and loyalty to Rupert Matthews as Police and Crime Commissioner remains undiminished and I wish him every success as he continues to deliver his Police and Crime Plan. Rupert has always empowered me and I have been grateful for his guidance.
“I would like to thank Rupert, his entire Office, the Force and our partners for their support during my time as Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner. There is a great deal of positive work being carried out and I have enjoyed being part of that.”
PCC Rupert Matthews responded, saying: “While I fully understand Charlie’s decision to stand down as Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, and the personal reasons for this, it is hugely regrettable as she made a big contribution to our small team. I know that she will be missed by us all and I wish her well in the future.
“Looking ahead, clearly this move leaves me without a Deputy and I will address that as soon as possible in order to maintain our services to the public of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.”
